This project aims to explore visual literacy and how I, as communication designer, can translate complex information into a simplified and stylised form, and present it in an accessible manner to a younger audience.
Water Monsters Papercraft is a toy kit for children age 12 and up, because of the required use of scissors and mild information on carnivorous monsters. This project mainly focuses on the idea of water monsters in Japanese myths which are the Kappa and Iwana bozu.
The concept

The main toy is a sheet of paper containing a 2D template of a specific monster that kids can cut out with scissors, then construct it to a 3D form by folding and gluing parts together. Five extra trivia cards are included in the set.
The toy's purpose is to help children develop their creativity in 2D and 3D shapes, while also help them relax, have fun and gain interesting knowledge on cultures and mythologies.
The Design

Quicksand was chosen as the primary typeface because of its roundness to depict the flow of water, while Futura PT is clean and modern for secondary typeface.
The colour palette fits with the aquatic theme, but still keeps the energy appropriate for children.
